The chain gives it away. Cast in high-grade bronze with two asymmetric eyes — one fractured, one whole — a fluid organic face that refuses symmetry, and a coloured link chain running the base like a smile that has seen too much. Red, teal, amber, purple, gold — the inlay sits inside the chain like memories the clown can’t put down. The surface is hammered, the lines are loose, the composition is somewhere between portrait and confession. The funniest piece in the Cast collection. Also the saddest.
